Thor: Ragnarok
Overview: Thor was pretty awesome. As was Loki....I will cut to the chase because I know you moms are pretty busy.
Unlike the other Thor movies, this one definitely had a much more humorous vibe; so much that it actually kind of changed the character development. However, it did have all of us laughing a lot in the theatre so I will give them that.
Language: There was a pretty good amount of language in this movie. They used the s word many times, as well as B---- and son of a -----. There was some other smaller words as well, but the use of the s and b words definitely stuck out in my mind the most, especially considering that it was the good guys, the role models, who were using the bad words. So, not good role modeling on their part.
Sex and Romance: This was, for the most part, limited. There was no sexy scenes, unless you count the part when Thor was shirtless for a few seconds. That scene, however, was immediately ruined when the Hulk emerged naked from a giant bath tub. We got a brief glimpse of his backside and plenty of bulging-muscle chest shots. We also heard Thor saying "Oh my gosh...I am never going to get that out of my head" and making other similar comments. Nothing sexy though.
There was however one small scene when the main characters steal a spaceship. They, of course, are trying to escape the bad guys and have to fight their way out. The pilot of the ship begins to search for the guns on the ship, and calls out to another character about this apparent lack of weaponry. The character then responds (not a word for word quote): "Oh this ship doesn't have guns. It's a pleasure ship. The Master uses it for his orgies." The pilot cringes and yells out for everyone not to touch anything. Though you'd have to know what an orgy is for that to have any meaning.
Violence: Most people aren't too concerned about this part, because most of the children here don't have an issue with it. If there is anything of note however I will put it down.
The only thing that could be disturbing was one scene where (spoiler) a character loses and eye. It's not too graphic though.
From a Catholic Perspective...
There was nothing amazing about this movie. No hidden messages (that I saw) or anything out of the ordinary. The only thing I would comment on is that it was kind of disappointing to see that a lot of the language and the one particular sex reference was all meant to be a joke. It was meant to be funny. Basically a lot like the infamous porn reference in Spider man Homecoming.
